DIY Beeswax & Coconut Oil Candles

It’s finally getting warm around here – it was 76 degrees yesterday!! But I still love to keep things cozy in the apartment with some candles burning. I had some leftover beeswax from the wood butter I made a while back and I’ve been meaning to try out some homemade candle options that are a bit more natural and safe than the store bought candles I usually pick up. I love projects like this because they remind me to slow my pace – appreciate the work that goes into things like a tiny candle. And how much more satisfying is that little flickering light when you know YOU made it!
DIY Beeswax & Coconut Oil Candles @themerrysthoughtWhat you need:
Large sauce pan and a fry pan (Or a double boiler if you have one)
1/2 lb raw beeswax (chopped into pieces)
1/4 cup coconut oil
Disposable tin pan
Large wicks
Pencil or skewer
Jars

How to make it:
-Fill your sauce pan with water and place fry pan on top.
-Put the beeswax in the tin pan and place in the fry pan.
-Heat over medium heat until the beeswax is completely melted.
-Add the coconut oil to the beeswax and let melt.
-Pour a small amount of wax into each container and add the wick to the center.
-Let cool for 10 minutes. (Keep the rest of the wax in the tin over the heat while you wait.)
-Wrap the top part of the wick around a pencil or wooden skewer to hold the wick in the center of the jar and balance the pencil across the top of the jar opening.
-Fill jars almost to the top with melted wax.
-Let cool for 30 minutes – 1 hour and if necessary top off with more wax. (If it has cracked or sunk in the middle at all.)
-Let cool overnight and then cut wicks to 1/2″.
