DIY Flower Press

DIY Flower Press @themerrysthoughtI’ve been walking around with bright red and yellow leaves crunching under my feet for the last week or so and it got me thinking about the flower press I had plans to make in the spring and never got around to. When I was younger, I loved pressing flowers and I still find old clovers, leaves, and flowers occasionally in my bible or journals that I kept from back then – still looking crisp and beautiful ten to fifteen years later! Now I can toss this in my backpack and collect flowers and foliage while I’m out hiking and save them for projects and journals!
DIY Flower Press @themerrysthoughtWhat you need:
-Plywood
-Tablesaw
-Cardboard
-X-acto Knife
-Watercolor Paper
-Scissors or Paper Cutter
-Drill
-Four 1/4″ Bolts
-Four 1/4″ Wing Nuts

How to make it:
-Cut two 8″x8″ pieces of plywood.
-Use x-acto knife to cut three 7.5″x7.5″ pieces of cardboard.
-Cut out six 7.5″x7.5″ pieces of watercolor paper.
-Cut corners out of paper and cardboard pieces. (So they will fit between the bolts.)
-Measure and mark 1/2″ in from both sides of each corner.
-Drill 3/8″ holes at each mark.
-Insert screws through the bottom board, stack the papers, (there should be two pieces of paper between each piece of cardboard) then put on top and secure with wing nuts.

-To dry leaves and flowers, place in between sheets of paper, close flower press tightly, leave to dry for 5-10 days.
