DIY Natural Cleaning Wipes

In my quest for healthier living, I’ve been trying to get rid of products that have harmful ingredients in them. A lot of cleaning products do and I have slowly been trying to eliminate those from our house. (You can google harmful chemicals in cleaning products if you’d like – this article is a short & sweet summary of it and this one is eye-opening.). I recently started using the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner and I love it! It took me a while to jump on that bandwagon, but since I’ve started using it, there’s no going back. It cleans everything – so I don’t need multiple products, smells so good and has no harmful ingredients in it. It also ended up being cheaper than any of the other “green” cleaning sprays I could get. These wipes cost me $2.87 per container to make, also cheaper than any I can buy at the store. Plussss, I love to make my own pretty labels. Healthier + cheaper + prettier = winning. 😉DIY Natural Cleaning Wipes @themerrysthoughtFor most of my cleaning, I use a cleaning cloth with my spray, so I’m not plowing through paper towels. It’s my ultimate goal to be able to use cloths instead of paper towels for these wipes, so that I can be wasting less, but I’m not there yet. Baby steps. I currently keep wipes in my bathrooms for easy, quick and frequent wipe downs that are needed. I live with all boys. Enough said. 😜
For those that have been thinking about getting started with oils, right now if you order your starter kit through me (which includes a diffuser + 11 oils + wholesale pricing/membership + other goodies or you can get yourself the Thieves Premium Starter Kit, which comes with the Thieves Cleaner plus a whole lot of products that will help you get a good start on replacing products with harmful ingredients in them with powerful, natural alternatives), I’ll give you an extra $20 off (from me, not through the site). And if you don’t use Thieves Household cleaner, these wipes can be made with other ingredients. I think using the recipe from our Homemade Natural Cleaning Spray from a few years ago would work fine.DIY Natural Cleaning Wipes @themerrysthoughtDIY Natural Cleaning Wipes @themerrysthoughtWhat you need:
– paper towels (you want good quality paper towels so they don’t rip easily)
– 2 cups distilled water
– 1 capful (about 1 tablespoon) Thieves Household Cleaner
– essential oils – optional (I added 2 drops of Purification and 2 drops of Lemon)
– container (I used an old cleaning wipes container – 15oz size, you can also buy containers made to hold wipes)
– label (see below)

Directions: Cut roll of paper towels in half using serrated knife; it will leave some little lint-like pieces, brush that off. Place a half roll of paper towels in your container (leaving the cardboard tube in). If the roll is wider than your container, you’ll need to roll off some layers. I just re-roll and save it to use for making the next batch.
In a large measuring glass, stir together water, Thieves Household Cleaner and essential oils. Pour over paper towels in container in a circular motion, making sure to saturate the entire roll. Depending on how large your container is, you might be able to use half the batch per container. I am able to make two (15oz) containers with this batch of cleaning solution. If you’re using a larger container, you’ll want to use the entire batch of cleaning solution. Close the lid and give a couple gentle shakes to fully saturate the roll. Let sit for about 15 minutes, then open and remove the cardboard tube. It should easily pull out since it’s wet. Pull your wipes from the center of the roll.

For those interested in the label I made, you can download it here. I use these labels for mine.
