Today I’m sharing this kids room makeover with floral accent wall!
While I was in NY, I stayed at our family cottage for a week and decided to do a couple updates because I’m hoping to start renting it out when we aren’t using it next summer. I spent all my summers running in and out of this cabin and because I am an insanely sentimental person, I kind of want everything to stay exactly the same forever. But I convinced myself it would be okay to do a quick update on the “kids room” upstairs. So I spent the days out on the lake and from 10-2 every night I would be up here ripping up carpet, putting in the new floor, painting walls… And it came together in about 5 days! (Scroll down for all the before and afters!)
The only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to add in a hand-painted accent wall inspired by Emily’s cactus wall. Mine isn’t quite as incredible as hers but I’m still kind of obsessed with how it turned out. I would have LOVED this wall as a kid.
I used all the furniture and linens we already had around the cottage so I could keep the makeover pretty cheap. So I sanded down and painted the beds that were already in there, swapped out the nightstand and dresser, painted the mirror, and swapped out a few other decor pieces.
For the DIY hand-painted wall: First I sketched out the designs first and then went back in and painted over everything once I liked the layout. I used a green paint although it pretty much ended up looking black unless you’re close up. Oh well!
